Effective ways to reduce welding deformation of space frame structure

It is inevitable that the steel space frame structure will be deformed during the welding process. If the amount of deformation exceeds the allowable value, it needs to be corrected. After some components are deformed, they can meet the requirements of use after correction, but it will occupy most of the production time. Some components directly lead to scrap after correction. Let me tell you how to prevent welding deformation:

Anti-deformation method

In order to offset (compensate) the deformation after welding, when assembling before welding, it is necessary to make the same artificial deformation of the workpieces in the opposite direction of the welding deformation.

Rigid fixation method

In actual production, the deformation after welding of components with high rigidity is generally small. For components with low rigidity, the rigidity of the component can be strengthened before welding, and the deformation after welding is reduced accordingly.

Hammer weld joints

When the weld joints of the thin plate and its heat-affected zone have not been completely cooled, the method of hammering the weld with a round head hammer can reduce the welding deformation and stress of some joints. A 1.0-1.5 pound hand hammer is generally used. The bottom and surface weld beads are generally not hammered to avoid cold work hardening of the metal surface. The rest of the weld bead must be hammered immediately after each weld, until the surface of the weld is hit with even and dense pits. For thick plates, they should be struck by an air gun.

Heat dissipation method

The heat dissipation method is also called the forced cooling method. That is to quickly dissipate the heat of the welding place, so that the metal heating surface near the welding bead is greatly reduced to achieve the purpose of reducing welding deformation.

In addition, it is necessary to select a reasonable welding sequence. Considering that the weld bead can shrink freely, the welding of large components should be carried out from the middle to the periphery. The welds with large shrinkage are welded first, and symmetrical alternating welding is adopted.
