The Difference Between Bolted Ball Space Frame and Welded Ball Space Frame

2021-05-13

The welding ball structure adopts hollow ball (material Q235 ordinary steel) and welded pipe to be butt welded on the construction site, and the bolt ball structure adopts solid ball (material 45# high-strength steel) and high-strength bolts (material 40Cr) to be closely spliced together, then the bolt ball space frame What’s the difference between the solder ball space frame?

Bolted Ball Space FramesWelded Ball Space Frames

  1. Differences in anti-corrosion treatment of steel

The steel pipe and welding seam of the welded ball space frame can only be rusted manually on site, and then painted or painted with fire-resistant paint, especially the welding seam is prone to rust, so it is necessary to periodically remove rust and paint for maintenance, which increases the cost of later use and affects the structure. Bolted ball space frame materials are mechanically shot blasted in the factory and then painted, plastic sprayed or zinc sprayed for enhanced corrosion resistance, and composite or pure stainless steel space frame materials can also be used.

  2. Differences in construction period

The welding ball is only operated on the construction site, and the process is complicated: cutting according to the drawing – tooling and laying out – angle measurement – positioning spot welding – girth welding full welding – cleaning and testing the weld seam, construction of 80-150 square meters per day, steel pipe All butt welding, the workload is too large and the construction period is slow.

70% of the work load of the bolt ball space frame is prefabricated in the factory, and 30% of the work load is installed on the site. Only a wrench is required to tighten the bolts on site, which is simple and quick, and the construction is 300-500 square meters per day.

  3. Differences in project cost

The welding ball material itself is very low, but the on-site construction volume is large, the welding equipment is large, the electricity cost is high, the scaffolding construction platform takes a long time, and the overall hoisting cost is high, which makes the project cost higher than expected. Although the amount of steel used for the bolt ball space frame is slightly higher, it is factory-made, and only small tools are required on the construction site, and no scaffolding platform is required to assemble it, which greatly saves the cost.

  4. Differences in space effects

The welding ball is a hollow ball node, that is, the diameter of the ball is large, and the specification is Φ 160~Φ 900. On the spatial level, the ball is large and the tube is thin, and the proportion is out of balance, which is bulky, rigid and depressing. The bolt ball is a solid ball with a specification of Φ 80~Φ 400. It is evenly matched with the pipe fittings, and the proportions are coordinated, reflecting a bright, lively, elegant and modern style.

  5. Differences in decoration process

The other loads of the welded ball space frame can only be loaded at the lower chord ball node. The space frame has a high clearance. During the decoration, a platform must be erected, and the steel parts are welded again, which increases the difficulty of construction.

The bolted ball space frame can directly use bolts to hang light steel keels, suspended ceilings, or configure audio, lighting, maintenance horse paths, fire sprinklers, ventilation ducts and other types of equipment to meet architectural design intent.
