Today, I will introduce the connection methods between steel structural members and their advantages and disadvantages. I hope to give you some reference.

 

  1. WeldingAdvantages: strong adaptability to geometric shapes; simple structure; automatic operation without weakening the cross section; good airtightness of the connection and large structural rigidity.

Disadvantages: high requirements for materials; easy to cause local material changes within heat-affected zone; Welding residual stress and residual deformation reduce the bearing capacity of the compression member; the welded structure is very sensitive to cracks; the problem of low temperature and cold brittleness is more prominent.

  1. RivetingAdvantages : reliable force transmission, good toughness and plasticity, easy to check quality, good anti-dynamic load performance

Disadvantages: complex structure, costly steel and labor.

 

  1. The Ordinary Bolt ConnectionAdvantages : convenient installation and unloading, simple equipment.

Disadvantages: when the bolt accuracy is low, it is not suitable to be sheared; when the bolt accuracy is high, the processing and installation are complicated, and the price is higher.

  1. The high-strength bolt connectionAdvantages : friction type has small shear deformation and good elastic performance, especially suitable for follow-up load structures. Bearing capacity is higher than friction type, and the connection is compact.

Disadvantages: friction surface treatment, installation process is slightly more complicated, the cost is slightly higher; the shear deformation of the pressure-bearing connection is large, and it should not be used in structures that bear dynamic loads.
