As of August 2026, Kenya‘s Talanta Stadium (Raila Odinga International Stadium) has reached 94% completion, with the pitch ready, LED screens installed, and 60 of 91 turnstiles in place. Tanzania’s Arusha Integrated Sports Stadium, featuring a single-layer space grid steel structure roof with approximately 8,000 tons of steel, successfully topped out its main steel structure in January 2026 . The Samia Suluhu Hassan Stadium in Arusha has seen its expansive metallic roofing structure largely complete, with the sweeping overhead steel truss system fully covering the seating bowl.
However, challenges remain. A CAF inspection report revealed that as of February 2026, none of Uganda‘s proposed venues fully met Category 4 standards, with Mandela National Stadium requiring partial demolition of the West Stand and roof replacement. Kenya received a formal warning over delays at Talanta Stadium, originally expected by end-2025 but pushed to mid-2026. These gaps underscore the critical need for reliable, fast-track steel structure solutions.

Beyond core competition venues, AFCON 2027 is catalyzing broader infrastructure development. Kenya has committed Sh29.4 billion to complete 39 sports stadia nationwide, with Sh26.4 billion designated for sports infrastructure, AFCON preparations, and athlete rewards . Uganda has allocated Shs905 billion in its 2026/2027 budget, including Shs213 billion for road upgrades around Hoima and Mandela stadiums, and Shs56.2 billion for Mandela National Stadium remodeling . Kenya is developing 32 additional sports facilities designed as multipurpose centers with ICT hubs, recording studios, and skyboxes to ensure year-round utilization.
The event, scheduled for June 19 to July 17, 2027, will be the first AFCON held in East Africa and the first co-hosted by three countries.
