Common quality problems of color steel plates

2025-06-27

Color steel plates may have a variety of quality problems during production and use, which not only affect their appearance, but also their performance and service life. The following are some common quality problems of color steel plates and their causes:

Coating problems

  1. Coating

(1) Uneven coating problem. During production, the coating thickness on the surface of the color steel plate will be inconsistent, and some areas will be too thick or too thin. This is usually caused by a malfunction of the coating equipment, improper control of the paint flow, or unstable movement speed of the spray gun.

(2) Poor coating adhesion problem. The coating is easy to peel off and peel, and the bonding with the substrate is not strong enough. The root cause is that the surface pretreatment of the substrate is not thorough, there are oil stains or impurities, or the coating formula design is unreasonable.

(3) Missing coating is also common in production. Local areas on the surface of the color steel plate are not covered by the paint, and the substrate is exposed. This may be caused by a malfunction of the coating equipment, a blockage of the spray gun, or an operator’s error.

  1. Scratches

The problem of surface scratches should not be ignored. There are linear scratches on the surface of the color steel plate, which not only affects the appearance, but also weakens its protective performance. This situation is mostly caused by improper handling and transmission during the production process, which causes the color steel plate to rub against other objects.

  1. Wave deformation

Wave deformation is also a quality problem in the production of color steel plates, which is manifested as the surface of the color steel plate showing wavy undulations and poor flatness. The cause of this phenomenon may be a problem with the material of the substrate, or it may be uneven pressure distribution during the profiling process.

Plating problem

  1. Plating

Uneven zinc layer thickness: The problem of uneven zinc layer thickness also occurs from time to time, that is, the zinc layer thickness of the galvanized substrate is different in different parts. This is mainly because the parameters of the galvanizing process are unstable and the flow of zinc liquid is not uniform.

Dezincification phenomenon: Dezincification is manifested as the zinc layer on the surface of the color steel plate falling off locally or over a large area, exposing the substrate. The main reasons for dezincification include poor quality of the zinc layer itself, erosion by corrosive substances in the use environment, and failure of the coating to protect the zinc layer.

In order to avoid these problems, it is necessary to strictly control the quality during the production and use process to ensure that all aspects such as material selection, processing, coating construction, etc. meet the relevant standards and specifications. At the same time, for the problems that have occurred, it is necessary to identify them in time and take corresponding treatment measures to ensure the use effect and safety of color steel plates.
