Why can’t color steel houses use foam sandwich color steel plates?

Color steel houses are not recommended to use foam sandwich color steel plates. There are mainly the following reasons:

  1. High fire safety hazards

(1) Flammability: The foam in the foam sandwich color steel plates is mostly made of (EPS) or polyurethane (PU) and other materials. These materials are extremely flammable. Once they encounter open flames or high temperatures, they are easy to burn quickly, and the fire spreads very quickly, forming a large-scale fire in a short time.

(2) Producing toxic gases: Foam materials will release a large amount of toxic and harmful gases during the combustion process, such as carbon monoxide and benzene. These gases can cause serious harm to the human body and increase the risk of casualties in fires.

  1. Poor environmental performance

(1) Difficult to degrade: Foam materials are high molecular polymers and are difficult to degrade in the natural environment. Abandoned foam sandwich color steel plates will cause long-term pollution to the environment and do not meet environmental protection requirements.

(2) Pollution during the production process: Some environmentally harmful chemicals, such as Freon, may be used in the production process of foam materials, which will damage the atmospheric ozone layer. At the same time, a certain amount of wastewater, waste gas and waste residue will be generated during the production process.

  1. Poor strength and durability

(1) Low structural strength: The foam material itself is soft and has limited strength. As a sandwich material, it cannot provide sufficient structural support for the color steel house, making the overall strength and stability of the entire house insufficient. When subjected to external force impact, wind pressure, snow pressure, etc., it is more likely to be damaged, deformed or even collapsed.

(2) Short service life: Due to the poor strength and weather resistance of the foam sandwich color steel plate, during normal use, it is more likely to be damaged than other sandwich material color steel plates with better performance, and requires frequent repair or replacement, which shortens the overall service life of the color steel house and increases the cost of use.

In view of the above many disadvantages, in order to protect the safety of life and property and ensure the performance and life of the building, many occasions now restrict or prohibit the use of foam sandwich color steel plates to build color steel houses.
