Limitations of Space Tube Truss Structures

The space tube truss structure has certain requirements for its production and construction technology and processing equipment, which is mainly due to the use of intersecting welded nodes, so the space tube truss structure also has certain limitations in its application.

  1. The process of processing and lofting intersecting joints is relatively complicated, and it is difficult to achieve the groove change on the intersecting line by manual cutting. Therefore, mechanical processing is generally used, and the construction unit is required to be equipped with CNC five-dimensional cutting machine tools. The technical requirements of mechanical processing are also very high. Due to the demand for process precision and the quality of the material itself (for example, the steel pipe is not round enough), it is easy to cause the intersecting line to fail to meet the construction requirements, so the construction has to be repaired at high altitude, causing safety problems and delaying the construction period.
  2. The joints of the space tube truss structure are generally welded, and the shrinkage needs to be controlled during welding, and the quality requirements of the welds are also relatively high. Because it is welded on site, the workload is relatively large.
  3. The space tube truss structure is often larger than the space frame structure in terms of steel consumption. For rods with different internal forces, steel pipes with different wall thicknesses but the same outer diameter should be used, and the wall thickness should not have too many thickness changes. Intersecting nodes in the chord direction should use steel pipes with the same outer diameter as rods as much as possible. Otherwise, the splicing between the steel pipes will be more complicated, and the splicing quantity will be too many. As a result, the amount of steel used increases, and the strength of the material cannot be fully utilized.
