Structural requirements of ordinary bolts in steel structure space frame

2021-08-03
  1. Form requirements

Ordinary bolts used in steel structure are hexagon head type, coarse and ordinary thread, and the code is generally expressed by M and nominal diameter. Class C bolts use the second type of hole, the diameter of which is 1.5-2mm larger than the bolt diameter.

  1. Arrangement requirements

The arrangement of bolts in the connection should follow the principle of being simple, regular and convenient for construction. There are two main ways of arrangement in common use— parallel and stagger.

The paralleled arrangement is relatively simple, but the bolt holes weaken the cross-section of the connected part; staggered arrangement can reduce the weakening of the cross-section of the bolt holes, but the bolt hole arrangement is not as compact as the parallel arrangement, and the size of the connecting plate required is larger. When bolting is used, the arrangement should meet the following requirements.

① Force requirements: When the component is under tension, the middle distance between the bolts should not be too small.

②Structural requirements: The middle distance of the bolts should not be too large, otherwise the steel plate will not fit tightly.

③ Construction requirements: A certain construction space should be ensured, and it is convenient to tighten the nut with a wrench.

We specialize in constructing space frame structures for various projects such as hangars, warehouses, factories and skylight roofs. If you want to know more, please feel free to contact me by email.
